Why does white light get slit into its seven constituent colours and not in a single colour after refraction through a glass prism?

The refracting index depends on various things. like temperature, medium and also on the wave length of light.
So for different wavelength, the prism will have different Refractive index.
So the colours in white color will refract at different angles .
Itis called dispersion of light
