In whitewash Calcium hydroxide is present. Calcium hydroxide reacts slowly with the carbon dioxide in air to form a thin layer of calcium carbonate on the walls. Calcium carbonate is formed after two to three days of white washing and gives a shiny finish to the wall

Answer:

because when whitewashed CaCo3 is present in the wall

for attaining shiny white Ca(0H)2 has to react with Co2 and this may take 2or3 days to form CaCo3
