Wilting of leaves takes place in hot summers to avoid water loss by transpiration.

EXPLANATION:

Plants maintain their water balance through a process called as transpiration that takes place in its leaves. The stomata or the tiny hole in the leaves that helps the plant to respire also plays a major role in this transpiration process. The wilting of leaves will thereby reduce the loss of water due to transpiration in summer.
