why does xenon react with fluorine where as neon does not ?

Since the outer shell of neon is completely filled, it will not react with fluorine. ... It reacts with fluorine. The reason behind this is that in xenon, the valence electrons are far away from the nucleus and, thus, loosely held by the nucleus and are ready to undergo reaction and form bond.
