Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here....
ZnO, when reduced by coke, does not liberate carbon dioxide gas.
WHY??
When ZnO Reacts with C, Reaction is:
ZnO + C -----> Zn + CO
Coke takes in only one atom of oxygen to reduce zinc (as there is only one atom of oxygen in zinc oxide). Hence, Coke displaces only one atom of oxygen from zinc and hence carbon monoxide is formed instead of carbon dioxide.
Hope my answer is satisfactory...
Thanks!!
