India does not have a particular religion for a particular state because the people of different religion are mixed in every state.
Migration can also be the cause for this because many people migrate for better opportunities and they can be of different religion.
People says that discrimination is not in our society anymore but if you step in some socities this is still practiced. As if you go to a modern place with educated people around, discrimination would not be there but in rural areas it is still practiced. They would judge on what religion are you.

Having a state religion would create disunity between the people of the country as people from different states would look down upon people from different states. For this reason, states were divided on the basis of language and culture.
