Why dolphins and whale releasing water while moving upwards?

Whales and dolphinsoften comes up to thewater surface. They even release a fountain of water sometimeswhile moving upwardsbecause the water from their passage comeupwards which appears like fountain. They come upwards to take in fresh air.
