For a fast bowler to be reported with suspect action he either has to be a slinger or pretty much has to have a round arm action. If you consider the case of Jasprit Bumrah his action is open chested as well as perfectly legal. His bowling action though not old school is really effective. Due to his non bowling arm coming down straight at an angle of 180 degrees to generate momentum for his bowling arm it just looks awkward and the batsman mostly expects an in-ducker. Instead Bumrah’s wrist position is so good that he delivers them with a straight seam which can also swing a little away from the batsman.
