why don't we measure all lengths in just one standard unit of length such as the metre instead of having multiples and submultiplea ?

ya there is one standard unit tharis metre but when it comes to larger distance we may can face problem of lengthynes so for ease we convert it to kilometre or other larger units . As for smaller unit the calulation becomes a bit complicated so we take smaller units such as cm or mm.
