Sodium hydroxide is a strong base and magnesium hydroxide is a weaker base.
Magnesium hydroxide can neutralise the excess acid present in our stomach (which causes acidity) but if we use strong base like Sodium hydroxide, it will neutralise high amount of acid.
But we don't need to neutralise the whole acid because the acid in our stomach (HCl) is very important for digestion.
So, due to this we don't use sodium hydroxide for treating acidity.
