Origin of Dong Jiao Zong
Jiao Zong is “The United Chinese Schools Teachers’ Association” and it was started in 1951 to uphold Chinese culture and education and to cooperate with the government in improving Chinese education in Malaysia.
Dong Zong is the “United Chinese School Committees’ Association” and was established in 1954 to represent the Chinese school managers and committee members.
Jiao Zong and Dong Zong combined together came to be known as Dong Jiao Zong.
The Rahman Talib Report (1960)
The Rahman Talib Report (1960) stated that all schools of Malaysia should have Malay as the medium of instruction and follow the national curriculum to foster national unity.
- This was not accepted by the Dong Jiao Zong as they had wanted to spread the importance of Chinese language.
- So they rejected the recommendations of Rahman Talib Report and started functioning as independent schools.
