Everyone of us have wondered at some point of time or other that why the oceans don't fall of or escape from Earth.
Moon has mass, and it exerts gravitational force on oceans. Moon's gravity pulls the ocean waters towards itself.
Why don't the oceans get attracted to the Moon and escape from Earth?
This is because, Earth is closer to the Moon and exerts 1000 times huge gravitational force than Moon. Earth's powerful gravity doesn't let the ocean waters , vapors, rains, etc escape from it's surface.
