Doordarshan, the national television channel of India, is one of the largest terrestrial networks in the world because:

1. Its network of 1400 terrestrial transmitters cover more than 90.7% of India's population.

2. It  has the largest transmitter infrastructure which with the aid of an antenna produces radio waves.

3. Started in 1959 it covers a whole range of programmes from entertainment ,educational to sports, etc and for people of different age groups. 

4.  Doordarshan covers a whole range of channels which includes National Channels, Regional channels, regional state network and International channel.

5. Recently, it has also started broadcasting on Digital Terrestrial Transmitters
