There is an interesting story attributed to his bachelorhood. Its heard he was in love with Kalyani, the daughter of another legendary doctor of Bengal, Dr Nilratan Sarkar. When he approached Dr. Sarkar asking for Kalyani’s hands, Dr Sarkar didn’t respond positively. Dr Roy didn’t marry after this and he founded his first planned city and named it Kalyani.
A legendary doctor, there are lot of stories about his understanding about diseases. It is heard that he could diagnose diseases by seeing a patient and his physical appearances. A great human being, he donated his everything for the country. He died on his birthday on 1st July 1962 at the age of 80, while serving as Chief Minister of West Bengal.
