Driving on an icy road is dangerous because:

  • Ice on roads, especially black ice, is tough to detect and may look like normal roads and so will have less friction than the normal roads.
  • Icy roads are very slippery and can make the vehicles to skid, lose traction and control of the vehicle, and finally causing accidents, sometimes even fatal.
  • Losing control of the vehicle often leads to collision and even multivehicle collision.
  • Driving faster on icy roads makes it tough to apply brakes suddenly when necessary.
  • Even with the best antilock braking system, stability and traction control, and durable tires, it is tough for any vehicle to withstand on icy roads.
  • Vehicles may also get stuck with ice or snow and not start or even stop in between.
  • So, care must be taken while driving on icy roads.
