why dry HCl do not react with blue litmus paper????

The colour of limus paper changes when an acid disassociates itself into H+ ions or hydronium ions. Thus,HCl can only disassociate itself in its aqueous solution. Hence dry HCl does not react with blue litmus because it can't disassociate into H+ ions
