Why dry hydrogen chloride gas does not turn blue litmus to gas whereas hydrochloric acid does

dry HCl is unable to turn litmus to red because under dry condition it is unable to release protons(H+ ions). when water is added, HCl hydrolyses and gives protons, which shows the acidic properties

\longrightarrowSince the hydrogen chloride gas does not contains water it does not turn blue litmus to red where as HCl acid turns. Dry HCL gas is not an acid because it does not produce H+ ions can't turn blue litmus to red litmus.
