because hydrogen is cation positively charged ion and oxygen is anion negatively charged ion so and cathode is negatively charged rod and anode positively so positively charged ions get attracted to negative rod and negatively charged ion get attracted to positively charged rod because like charges repel to each other and unlike charged get attracted to each other.

vipul12: no bro cathode is +vely charged
Rittwotson: never anode is +vely charged rod it is a metal rod not ions
