During ploughing the land is pressed lightly due to the following reasons.
1. The soil will not get closely packed so that proper aeration can happen.
2. Seeds and other nutrients when sprayed can reach a bit underneath, or else birds will eat up.
3. Microbes will able to survive properly in loosely packed soil, rather then tightly packed.

Yes it is correct having it to be compressed tightly can affect the growth of the plants
It is pressed lightly for two reason
1st being the reason of aeration it is necessary as a seed would need air to grow
2nd being that a plant cannot shoot through compressed soil as it is hard for the plant to do so
