Why dust comes out of a carpet when it is beaten with a stick? Explain the reasons

Due to INERTIA OF REST
when carpet is beaten with stick, it comes time n motion but the dust particles (not in direct contact of stick) due to inertia of rest resists itself to be in motion and as a result......dust comes out of the carpet
