The planet Earth has an odd shape, its not really round, it bulges out at the equator and recesses in a little at the poles. This would make Earth an oblate spheroid. But since satellites with radar have been used to map the shape of the Earth its found to not be an oblate spheroid either. Geographers gave up and just call it a “geoid” which literally means: “Earth Shaped.
