why economic growth is slower in democracy?
Answers
Answer:
No its definitely not , its rather the misuse of democracy that has gotten us so far.
We pretty much have scams since Independence [1] . The first scam in 1948 .
The buggiest problem by far is
1. Political System Being comfortable with zero accountability. I still dont understand why the political parties have been exempted from RTI act. (please correct me , if the ACT is changed)
2. Corruption and Red tap-ism has plagued the entire system, right from bottom peon to the top officials. I partly disagree with what Mahesh has said. Recently, when the concerned person in China was caught for corruption , he is facing severe punishment. [2] . I have not seen such stern steps taken in India.
3. Its not democracy itself, but the misuse of democracy seems to be the bigger problem.
People choosing their candidates based on their personal interest and not the national interest.
In rural areas I doubt if people are even educated enough to understand who is the right candidate for them.
Play the caste / religion / community triumph cards to divide for larger Vote banks. (Telegana / Andhra split just before elections seems more to serve political interest than people`s interest.)
The above reasons leads to a wrong candidate in a position of power. Thus, screwing up the system.
4. Politicizing each and every Issue and start the blame game in the name of freedom of speech.
Bihar Mid-Day meal crisis.
Suspension of IAS officers for BS reasons.
etc etc .. there are soo many of them.
Unless and until the people are not educated enough to understand and exercise their rights. This will go on forever.
