Why either of the sulphate ion or hydroxide ion is not discharged at copper electrodes during electrolysis of aqueous Copper (II) sulphate ?​

Answer :-

During electrolysis of aqueous copper sulphate using copper electrodes, the two anions OH– ( hydroxide ion ) and S042- ( sulphate ion ) migrate to the anode, but none of them get discharged because the copper of the anode dissolves in the solution producing copper ions and electrons.

Hence, OH– ( hydroxide ion ) and S042- ( sulphate ion ) remain as spectator ions.
