why electric field line shoot out perpendicular from metallic charged conductors

If the field lines did not leave the conductor perpendicularly, there would be a componet of the field parallel to the surface of the conductor. This component would make electrons in the conductor move so that the charge distribution caused there to be no parallel component. i.e the field would be perpendicular to the surface.
