because , at the point of intersection, they have to move in the opposite direction which is not possible because they emerge from north pole and merge at South pole.

Magnetic field lines never intersect each other because at the point of intersection there will be two direction which is impossible .
Means in simple language the compass can't show two direction at the same time that's why magnetic field lines never intersect each other.
