Why electric lines of force are not parallel to at the age of a parallel plate capacitor what can be done to make them parallel?

When you imagine an infinite slab of charge, at every point near the slab (or even far, since we have an infinite surface of charge) the field must be perpendicular to the slab, right?

Because any point is symmetric and there’s as much charge to one side of it, as there is to the other. So, all ‘lateral’ components of the field are compensated, and only the 

perpendicular component is non zero
