Electric poles appear bent when seen from a far point due to the phenomenon of refraction of light. As the poles are viewed from a long distance the atomosphere at the place where the observer is located is different from that of the poles. As a result the optical density of the atmosphere at these two places are also different and therefore refraction of light occurs. So the electric poles appear bent.
