According to the above marked line, and the asked question....
Elements need to be classified because there are numerous types of elements present on earth... ( 118 elements ), so it os not easier to remember the physical and chemical properties of each and every individual element. Each element has its unique properties but there can be some group of elements which may possess common properties may be chemical or physical. So,
The best option is to put the selected element in such a group in which the other constituted elements have maximum similar properties and which distinguishes the group from other group having it's own different properties..
( EXAMPLE : Alkali group, Halogens. )
