Deforestation is the main reasons behind entering of elephants and other wild animals into human living area.

We humans snatched their natural habitat by constructing buildings in forest areas.

This causes imbalance in ecosystem due to this the animals like elephant, tiger and other wild animals are entering into human living area or city.

The habitat destruction is taking place in masses in order to provide apathetic humans and some tribal areas for their daily consumption of timber, wheat, wood, leaves, etc. For various medicinal and cultural purposes which later go on as traditions subsequently the elephants don't have a natural habitat not even the fact that as well as other wild living animals in nature are entering the human society premises to get themselves a shelter or a home which is quite unnatural for the animals itself. Deforestation is the second cause due to which cutting and destruction of trees (again it is a part of habitat destruction executed by humans) making the species and the organisms escape from that destroyed environment, and since they have no habitat the will definitely and surely venture into human inhabited areas. It is about time people have shown some minute concern for wild animals too and are currently creating artificial habitats including restoration for natural habitats and it's eventual conservation.
