So, withstand the heavy load of elephant and make it easy for locomotion, elephants are provided with legs of thick area than man. Weight goes up as the cube of length so larger animals need thicker legs to support their weight (the cross sectional area of the leg only going up by the square of the length).
This shows that the breaking weight is directly proportional to area . Thus , to balance the heavier weight of elephant , the area of the legs should be thicker . Hence , Elephant has thicker legs (to prevent from breaking ) as compared to human beings to area .
