It's true that all the members of the D12 had their own nicknames but Eminem chose specifically 'Slim Shady' for himself because of how he truly was. 'Slim' because he was really skinny as a teenager and easily got picked upon by the bullies. 'Shady' because of the dark side he has. The thoughts that came to his mind where he was psychotic murderer/rapist taking revenge on those who hurt him (only in his songs). According to him this alter ego suited him perfectly well.
