Hey mate

✌️_________✌️
epidermis is called protective tissue because it forms the outermost covering of a plant whic protects the plants from different harmful causes.epidermis of plant contains small openings known as stomata these stomata perform the function of losing excess water which is known as transpiration.as there is scaracity of water in desert the epidermal layer(which has stomata) is covered with a waxy layer to prevent the loss of water through transpiration and as it is very hot in the surroundings the most of the water present in plant will be evaporated and the plant will die.

HEYA....

EPIDERMIS IS CALLED AS IT PROTECTS THE CELL AND ITS CONTENTS IN MANY WAYS..

1] IT PROTECTS AND KEEPS THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT OF CELL BEING DISTINGUISHED FROM THE OTHER SO THE CELL CONTENTS COULD COME IN CONTACT WITH EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

2] IT ALLOWS PERMITS THE ENTRY AND EXIT OF SOME MATERIAL TO MOVE IN AND OUT OF THE CELL

3] IT ALSO CONTROLS THE MOVEMENT OF THE MATERIALS

4] IT HELPS IN THE EXCHANGE OF GASES THROUGH DIFFUSION

5] IT MAINTAINS THE BALANCE OF WATER THROUGH THE PROCESS OF OSMOSIS

6] THE IN OLD PLANTS OR TRESS THE EPIDERMAL CELL HAS SUBERIN WHICH MAKES IT IMPERVIOUS TO GASES AND WATER
