why ethane cannot be obtained by alkyl halides?​

Explanation:

As I understated it, this process can only be used to synthesise symmetric chain alkanes with at least one carbon-carbon bond within it (via nucleophilic substitution). Methane (being the simplest alkane) has no C-C bonds, so cannot be synthesised this way.
