Eureka metal (alloy) is used to make standard resistance coil, because -

  • Eureka is basically an alloy of copper and nickel.
  • The electrical resistivity of this alloy is as high as 4.9/10⁷ ohm.m and the melting point of this alloy is as high as 1300°C.
  • So, this alloy can easily produce high amount of electrical resistivity and has higher capacity of withstanding heat energy. These properties make this alloy an efficient resistant substance.
  • That's why, it's used in standard resistance coil.
