Evaporation is known as surface phenomena because molecules of water present on the surface of liquid are bonded weakly as compaered to inner molecules and when temperature increases hydrogen bonding between water molecules breaks.Due to this water molecules tend toevaporate.so that's why it is called as surface.

Hey mate

Here's your answer___

The upper surface of water in open dish absorbs heat and light enery.the molecules on upper surface gains energy and over comes the binding force.since the molecules are released from upper surface it is called surface phenomenon.

Hope it helps☺☺
