In case of cross pollination, pollen of one flower is being transferred to another flower that has stigma in it. In this way new offspring was formed but  that might lack certain desired strains or that might inherit a disease carrying gene.

Hence, farmers chose genetic engineering to save time, reduce cost, and improve efficiency and economy.
