Farmers grow leguminous plant along with paddy since the bacteria on the nodules takes nitrogen from the air and then fixes in to soil.

EXPLANATION:

The organism like Bacteria on legumes nodules of the root of the plant is very helpful in growing plants. By growing leguminous plant along with paddy the other plant can also use the nitrogen whenever it is required.

This process basically includes the use of nitrogen from air by bacteria in soil to maintain the nutrients level for normal growth of plant. Farmers call this process as crop rotation which is used with paddy so that equal nutrient is reaching both the plant via common soil.

Answer:

If another crop of cereal is grown in the same soil, the soil becomes nitrogen deficient. So crop rotation by planting legumes and leguminous plants are very important to fix and store nitrogen in the legumes.

There are certain forms of bacteria that help in crop rotation in cereals like rice and maize. This is the reason why farmers are now encouraged by biochemists to grow more legumes along with paddy.
