A pteridophyte sensu lato is a vascular plant (with xylem and phloem) that reproduces via spores, and therefore was a member of the former and now invalid taxon Pteridophyta. ... Because pteridophytes produce neither flowers nor seeds, they are also referred to as "cryptogams".
