Why ferroelectric materials have high dielectric constant?

A simple answer is:-

There is a finite polarization even when the external applied electric field is zero (characterized by hysteresis loop). Since this ratio of the polarization to electric field tends to infinity the electric susceptibility and the hence the corresponding dielectric constant are higher.
