Floating respiration is a type of cellular respiration or exchange of gases which utilizes carbohydrates or fats as the substrate for respiration. The substrate is usually obtained from the storage materials which get hydrolysed. ... Floating respiration makes the cells healthier and does not produce any toxic by-products.

Glucose being the simplest monosaccharide hexose molecule acts as the chief respiratory substrate. If carbohydrates are used up and its shortage becomes acute, other protoplasmic substrates such as proteins may also be catabolized. This is termed protoplasmic respiration.

Hope it helps.
