ionization enthalpy is the energy required to remove the valence electron from an isolated neutral gaseous atom. The size of fluorine atom is lesser than that of chlorine. So the valence electrons will be held by the nucleus very strongly which results in the application of more energy to remove the valence electron from fluorine atom as compared to chlorine atom. So the ionization enthalpy will be more in the case of flourine
