Why fluorine cannot be prepared by direct reaction of fluorine with benzene?

I think you mean fluoridation... Fluorine reactions are generally explosive.. Moreover it leads to a situation similar to picric acid.. That's why, to avoid multiple fluorine atoms being substituted, we have to first mask the compound or use different methods to force substitution at desired positions..
