But Mahatma Gandhi declared that Sawaraj would not cone for a hundred years if untouchability was not eliminated . Under this conservative programme he laid stress on the removal of untouch ability.

He called them untouchables. the Harijans meaning the children of God . He also organised satyagraha to secure their entry into temples , and acess to publuc wells , roads , schools .
