The coefficient of volume expansion is given by αv = (ΔV/V)(1/ΔT). The extent to which solids and liquids expand, in general, depends on their dimensions and the temperature difference.  For gases we have the ideal gas equation: PV = μRT. At constat pressure, PΔV = μRΔT. ΔV/V = ΔT/T αv = (ΔV/V)(1/ΔT) = 1/T So for gases, the coefficient of thermal expansion is dependent on temperature.
