Frank seemed infinitely relieved to see Millie because he had thought that it must have been Mr Crocker-Harris who had been standing at the door and had heard the better part of their conversation. But it turned out to be his wife Millie and she seemed not to be the sort of woman who would report to her husband about what others thought if him behind his back. Frank and Taplow had been discussing Mr Crocker-Harris and teaching methods in an unflattering light hence the fear of being overheard by the subject himself and the relief on finding it was his wife instead.
