Why friction acts towards centre in a circular motion?

when a car is moving in a circular motion a centrifugal force is applied in the outward direction...... in case of circular motion the centrifugal force acts along the radical direction. so there is a tendency of the body to move radially outward or inward. thus friction acts in that direction to prevent relative motion.
