Friction is referred to as necessary evil as it is both helpful and harmful for us in daily lives.

Explanation:

We are able to walk, stand properly, move about as there is friction. If it wouldnt have been there, it wouldnt have been possible to do these stuff in our daily lives.

It is harmful in certain cases is it damages and causes wear and tear. For example, the knee joint starts to hurt for a lot of people after certain age. this is because the synovial fluid (and cartilage) isnt there to reduce the friction and now the  bones start to rub against each other causing the pain.
