Actually, welcome to the concept of decomposition reaction.

Decomposition reaction:-

The reaction in which a single reactant break down in to two or more simpler products by the help of heat, light and electrical energy.

There is three types of decomposition reaction :-

  • Thermal decomposition reaction.
  • Electrical decomposition reaction.
  • Photo decomposition reaction.

The decomposition of lead nitrate is a thermal decomposition reaction :-

Pb(NO3)2 + PbO + NO2 + NO3

where, NO2 is also known as brown fumes.

The decomposition of lead nitrate release nitrogen dioxide which is brown in colour known as brown fumes.
