In fungus, their cell do not have chloroplasts so they do not have chlorophyll which is why they cannot absorb sunlight hence they are not capable of photosynthesis. They are called heterotrophs.
- Photosynthesis is a process in which plants use sunlight, water from the soil, and carbon dioxide from the air to produce oxygen and energy in the form of sugar for their food.
- Sunlight is a major reason for photosynthesis. The sunlight is stored in the plant cell in the form of energy in the chloroplasts. Within chloroplast, there are light-absorbing pigments called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight and gives green colour to the trees and plants. These green plants are called autotrophs.
