salt was chosen by mahatma gandhi and it was common between all indians and was an ingredient used byall indians.
taxation on salt and the monopoly of the govt on it was the most oppressivephase of the british govt, as said by gandhi.
the abolition of salt tax was one of the demand asked by gandhiji in the letter he posted to viceroy irwin.
this was different from n.c.m because n.c.m was about not cooperating with the british govt. whereas this c.d.m asked the indians to break the coloniallaws.
